Hu Jia (Jasmine), a professor at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM), has been named to the American Psychological Association's (APA) list of 2026 initial fellows. She is among eight scholars in the field of industrial and organizational psychology from across the world to have been elected APA fellows this year. The APA's board of directors approved the list in August. The APA fellowship is Professor Hu's second major recognition from the international psychology community this year. She was named a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS) in early 2026.

Hu Jia (Jasmine) is currently a tenured professor and Citi Chair Professor in International Business at Tsinghua SEM and Schwarzman College. Previously, she served as a tenured full professor at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, where she was recognized as a distinguished professor. Before that, she was a tenured associate professor at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business.

Hu's research focuses on prosocial leadership and team effectiveness. In recent years, she has expanded her focus to topics including the reshaping of leadership in the digital era, the whole-person view of leadership, women's leadership, and cross-cultural leadership effectiveness. To date, she has published nearly 40 research papers in top international academic journals, and her work has received more than 13,000 citations. Her findings have been reported by media outlets such as Time, Forbes, and Fortune. Her Chinese-language book on women's leadership, Cultivating Core Leadership: Eight Disciplines for Women Leaders, has been appeared on JD.com's list of weekly bestselling management books. In addition, she has conducted field research in dozens of enterprises including McKinsey & Company, Lenovo, IBM, the Bank of China and ENN Energy.
Hu was included on Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists List for three consecutive years, and recognized as one of the most highly cited Chinese researchers. She was named one of the world's top 10 most productive leadership scholars for the period 2011 to 2017, and received the Mid-Career Standout Leadership Scholar Award from the Academy of Management (AOM). She was also named a Best 40-Under-40 Professor by Poets & Quants.
Hu is now among a small group of scholars who are concurrently fellows of the APA, the APS and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) at the same time. Currently, she serves on the leadership tracks of both the International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR), and the Organizational Behavior Division of AOM. She is also an associate editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology, a leading international publication in applied psychology, and has been appointed an associate editor of the Academy of Management Review, a leading international journal for conceptual work in management.
Hu described the APA fellowship as an honor that reflects the long-term support that she has received from her collaborators and peers, as well as a recognition of the collective effort by the community of organizational behavior researchers. She said that she will continue to work with her peers at home and abroad to advance research on leadership and teamwork, and hopes to amplify the voice of Chinese scholars in international academic dialogue.
