CHEN Xiao became one of the first Tsinghua University's economics PhDs to return from studying in the United States in March 1997. He rode the wave of the era and devoted himself to development of the accounting discipline.

Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) held the award ceremony for its 2021 CHEN Xiaoyue Scholarships on September 22, 2022. Professor CHEN Xiaoyue's widow GUO Fengmei; his daughter CHEN Meng; his former students CHEN Wuzhao, FANG Yuan, GUO Yue, HUANG Ying, SUN Liqiang, YAO Fengqi, ZHANG Zhengrong, ZHU Hong, ZHU Jinpu; and his close friend XU Yuqing attended.

On September 8, 2018, Tsinghua University-Singapore Management University (Tsinghua-SMU) MCFO & MPAcc dual-degree program (known as MCFO program) held its first opening ceremony for Class of 2018. Professor CHENG Qiang, Dean of SMU School of Accountancy, Professor XU Xin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM and Professor XIAO Xing, Director of Department of Accounting of Tsinghua SEM attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
